The Program and The Project

The program is a VIGRE sponsored summer REU at the University of Illinois. Our particular program is called illiMath 2002 and is directed by Prof. George Francis. Our home is in the grafiXlab in Altgeld Hall on UofI campus. illiMath 2002 is made up of six undergraduate students working on four different projects. Each project involves the graphical representation of mathematical concepts. The end product of each project will be a piece of software that may be used in a variety of mathematical and practical ways.

The project that I am working on is called the Illustrated Analyst under the mentorship of Karen Shuman. We are studying and attempting to illustrate key concepts in the field of fourier transform analysis and signal processing. The project includes a software program that may be used as a aid in the teaching of these complex concepts. The goal of the project is to develop a piece of software that can animate the convolution of two functions and graphically "prove" that the point-wise product of the transform of two functions is equal to the transform of the convolution of the functions.

Current Progress:

MathFest went great and now the REU is over. Thank you to George and Karen for the past 8 weeks and the vast amount of mathematics and computer science that I have been exposed to. It was an experience that I would never trade.

The Code and an Executable:

All of the code and a Windows executable can be found by visiting my public folder.
