Snyder on-camera: text
The BIMA array will be the prototype for the bigger arrays to come in the future.
Early in the next century, for example, the U.S. National Array is being planned
by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. It will be the equivalent of the Very
Large Array, except it will operate at millimeter wavelengths and it will have 40
elements instead of the 12 elements that we eventually plan for the BIMA array. So
the technology that we're working out for the BIMA array we anticipate will be
applied directly to the U.S. National Array.
