The thinking on this has changed quite a bit in the last few decades. Now a lot of
people are thinking that most of the water in the oceans came from comets. Most of
the carbon on Earth, or at least half the carbon on Earth came from outside sources,
it came from the interstellar material...to the early Earth, hardly processed at all
in the form of comets and asteroids.
