With a traditional telescope, where the focusing is done by the telescope onto a
photographic plate, the data collection is fairly simple. But in effect, what we
do is get into the middle of the telescope and collect a lot of the raw data,
record it, and then we have to do this focusing process which requires massive
computing capability. So the computer is part ofthe telescope.
