Testing Hydrodynamics in 2-D: Caption
Cold Dark Matter and Gas: Gas Density Evolution
In these experiments, baryonic gas was modelled on a Convex C3880 and
later, a Connection Machine 5 for it fluid behavior under the gravitational
influence of dark matter, though no dark matter was "present" in the simulation, thus
keeping it as simple as possible. Nevertheless, distinct patterns in the
density and temperature of the gas to emerge during the course of the
simulation in the slice of the universe depicted. The tests laid the
groundwork for further simulations in which mixed dark matter was introduced and its
effects on the distribution of baryonic matter modelled in all three spatial
dimensions.
