Andromeda: Caption
Also known by astronomers as "M31," Andromeda is our Milky Way's nearest galactic neighbor.
Lying about 2 1/4 million light years away, both Andromeda and the Milky Way, along with
20 smaller galaxies, belong to the " Local Group" of galaxies. Note the two smaller
satellite galaxies above and below Andromeda.
