The COBE results are revolutionary for cosmology. What they do is provide you with the imprint of creation. This is basically what the early
universe looked like before the galaxies were formed.
And it out of those ripples which are really density perturbations in the early universe that the galaxies and the clusters of galaxies formed. So, in terms of theory what it means is that we have the starting conditions for the universe fairly well const
rained for the first time.
