Numerical cosmology simulations are very computer intensive.
You take a large chunck of the unierse and you subdivide it into
little volumes and then you envolve the equations for the hydrodynamics,
the dark matter, and the gravitational forces in each of those little
volumes. the more cells, as they're called, the better you can describe
the evolution of this chunk of universe, the more detailed you can get about
the resulting distribution of galaxies.
