The prior work had been almost entirely where you said there's only dark
matter in the universe. So, you describe where all the points are, you
calculate the gravity from those points. That gives you the acceleration
that the force is on and you move them a little bit. And that's fine
except the universe is not only made of dark matter. If it were we
wouldn't see anything with our telescopes because dark matter is
invisible. And so when you end up with computations like that you
couldn't compare them to the real universe even if 90% of the matter is
dark matter. You had to have the other elements in it which are things
that we're actually going to see...which emit light.
