Head-on Collision of Two Black Holes
Merging worldlines or "Pair of Pants"
This movie shows the evolution of the event horizon for a head-on
collision of two black holes. The initial data set corresponds to the
separation parameter mu=2.2, representing an initial
separation between the holes of L=8.97M. The geometric embedding of
the horizon, which indicates the true dynamics of the horizon amd
removes spurious coordinate effects, is shown for the timescale of the
coalescence and approximately a single period of oscillation. The
rotation has been added to the film to enhance the visualization;
the collision actually has no rotation.
