So you want to explore digital, 3-D worlds in real time? With appropriate
hardware and software you can do just that. Choose between various head- or
boom-mounted displays. Or, surround yourself in digital imagery
by stepping into a virtual reality room, the CAVE.
Described in the following documents are the most common virtual reality systems and their associated interface devices that, like 3D mouses, allow you to control and manipulate the virtual world. Also presented is a display of VR architecture. This example of a typical VR system will give you an idea of how computing hardware and software work together to generate a virtual world. In fact, a visit to a VR system would be a good place to start.
