Although a large part of the human brain is involved in processing information in visual terms, there is also a large portion of the brain that is used in processing auditory signals. So a person that is blind is able nonetheless to navigate in the world
to a very large degree because of audio cues from the environment. Those are very different cues than the visual ones we're used to.
