Hmm, just to check: are you running one instance in server mode (-s) and the other instance in client mode (-c) on each PC?
Another way could be to do UDP tests at 4Mbit/s using the bidirectional flag (-d) at the client end, and look at what manages to pass through the link.

I tried it but without success. It seems that when one session starts the second one is not able to run properly simultaneously and it causes a lot of packets loss.
Does anyone has other suggestion to try?

I was wondering if it' s possible to run a bidirectional test with iperf 1.7.0 with UDP stream and different rates. I need to test an ADSL link with different rates depending on the direction of the transfer: 4Mbps from client to server and 512Kbps from server to client. Is it possible to do that simultaneously?
