I´m a begginer using Iperf and I don´t completely
understand how it works. I have read the user-documentation and FAQ´s, besides I
have run it between 2 nodes in a LAN to see if this helps me but I still
don´t get it.
Documentation says it provides throughput and
bandwidth but the report only shows bandwidth?
Is this available bandwidth or
throughput?
How does Iperf calculate this bandwith? Does it
take into account data link, IP, TCP/UDP headers or just
data? The bandwidth reported by the server is the
bandwidth client-->server or server -->client?
The bandwidth reported by the client is the
bandwidth client-->server or server -->client? Which is the relation between the buffer length
Iperf uses and the amount of data sent by nodes?
Does the command iperf -n sends the buffer
data n times?
Why can the sender bit rate be changed for UDP and
not for TCP?
Which is the sender bit rate for TCP?
I have looked for additional information on the web
but nothing have answered my questions. I´ll really appreciate any
help.
Regards, Rosanna
