RE: Problem with -d and -r option

Hi,

First of all, thanks to the really cool features of bidirectional testing
and client side UDP reports. To the question below, as mentioned in the
warning, '-d' is not a valid option for the server mode. Use '-D' to run the
server in a daemon mode (in Unix) and run Iperf as a service (in Windows).

For what you need, us something similar to the following sequence of
commands

On the server:-
% iperf -s
------------------------------------------------------------
Server listening on TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 24.0 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------

On the client:- (for alternating tests)
% iperf -c sal -L 4000 -r
------------------------------------------------------------
Server listening on TCP port 4000
TCP window size: 24.0 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
Client connecting to sal, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 32.0 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
[ 6] local <local-ip> port 52432 connected with <sal-ip> port 5001 [ 5]
local <sal-ip> port 4000 connected with <local-ip> port 52433
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
[ 6] 0.0-10.3 sec 283 MBytes 230 Mbits/sec
[ 5] 0.0-10.0 sec 322 MBytes 270 Mbits/sec

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks,
Ajay.

| Subject: Problem with -d and -r option
|
|
| When I use the -d or -r option on the client side I get the
| following error.
|
| WARNING: option -d is not valid for server mode
|
| Here are the command lines that I am using.
|
| iperf -s -D -p 1214
|
| iperf -d -p 1214 -c <server-name>
|
| Any suggestions what I might be doing wrong?
|
| I would also be interested in an option to have the server
| send data to the
| client. Rather that the client to the server or both. Any
| suggestions on
| that?
|
| What I am trying to do is simulate TCP transfers from
| different services to
| test a QoS implementation. For this I would rather have the
| data sourced
| from the server rather than the client.
